Salt Lake City, Utah – Utah faces a critical fire threat as Red Flag Warnings remain in effect across the state, with the highest wildfire danger through at least 10 p.m. Saturday in central and southern regions. Residents from the San Rafael Swell to the Color Country Mountains are urged to prepare for fast-spreading wildfires as hot, dry winds intensify.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph—with gusts reaching 35 mph—will combine with bone-dry humidity levels as low as 5% through Thursday night. The warnings cover the Central Utah Mountains, Grand Staircase, Mojave Desert, Henry Mountains, Tavaputs Plateau, and multiple national forests, where any spark could turn into a major blaze.

Communities near Kanab, Richfield, Cedar City, and Price face the greatest risk, especially along highways like US-89, I-70, and State Route 24. Fire danger is particularly severe in the Central Utah West Desert and Color Country West Desert, where overnight humidity will barely recover.

Emergency managers urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, secure trailer chains, and be cautious with equipment. Keep phones charged, pack go-bags, and review evacuation plans as red flag warnings may be extended or expanded.

These hazardous fire weather conditions are expected to last until at least Saturday night, with further updates possible if wind speeds and dry air persist.
