Salt Lake City, UT – A potent winter storm system is expected to bring significant snowfall to the northern Utah mountains and Wasatch Back beginning late Thursday and lasting into early Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for these areas due to the potential for heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions.

Forecasters say snowfall will begin late Thursday evening and persist on and off through Saturday night. The heaviest snow is expected Friday night into Saturday morning, with total accumulations of 6 to 24 inches possible across the northern ranges. Higher elevations could see over two feet of snow, especially in areas exposed to strong west-northwest flow.

The weather service warns of dangerous travel conditions across mountain passes and ski corridors, including Parleys Summit and routes leading to Park City and Logan Canyon. Visibility could drop rapidly during heavier bursts of snow.

Drivers are advised to prepare for winter travel, carry emergency supplies, and check local road conditions before heading into higher elevations.
