Washington, D.C. – A Salmonella outbreak linked to contaminated cucumbers has impacted 23 states, with 100 illnesses reported nationwide, the FDA and CDC announced Thursday.

Officials confirmed American/slicer cucumbers as the source of the outbreak. Recalls have been issued for products distributed by SunFed Produce, Baloian Farms, and Russ Davis, as well as cucumbers labeled Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. These products were sold across the United States, potentially exposing consumers to the bacteria.

According to the FDA, 25 people have been hospitalized, though no fatalities have been reported. The majority of those interviewed reported eating cucumbers before becoming ill. Symptoms of Salmonella infection, which include fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps, typically appear within 12 to 72 hours of consumption.

Consumers are urged to check cucumbers purchased since October 12 and discard them if their origin is unclear. Retailers and distributors should stop selling affected products and thoroughly sanitize storage and display areas.

The FDA’s investigation is ongoing, and additional recalls may follow. Anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming cucumbers should contact their healthcare provider.
