Richmond, Virginia – Cool temperatures in the 30s and 40s will continue across central and eastern Virginia today, with a few rain or snow showers possible tonight north of the region.

According to the US National Weather Service in Wakefield, inland highs Tuesday will range from the low to mid-40s, while areas along the Eastern Shore remain in the 30s. Skies are expected to turn partly to mostly cloudy as the day progresses.

A disturbance passing north of the area may bring isolated rain or snow showers tonight, mainly across northern sections near the Maryland border and along US-50. Any precipitation is expected to be light, with minimal impact.

Temperatures will warm Wednesday, with highs forecast between 49 and 59 degrees across much of central and eastern Virginia, including Richmond along I-95 and Norfolk along I-64.

More widespread rain chances are expected to return by Thursday as another system moves into the region. High temperatures Thursday are projected to range from the upper 40s to mid-60s, depending on location.

While no significant winter accumulation is expected locally, brief precipitation tonight could create isolated slick spots in northern areas if surface temperatures dip near freezing.

The midweek pattern may especially affect commuters traveling along I-95, I-64, and US-13 during early morning hours.

Officials advise monitoring updated forecasts as rain chances increase heading into Thursday.
