Salem, IN – A Washington County man was taken into custody Thursday following an Indiana State Police investigation into alleged child battery.
According to Indiana State Police in Sellersburg, the Salem Police Department requested assistance on August 4 in connection with an infant who had been brought to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville with reported injuries. Investigators said Indiana State Police Detective Clay Boley learned the alleged battery occurred on August 2 in Washington County and that the Indiana Department of Child Services was also involved in the case.
Authorities said the investigation included multiple interviews, including with 20-year-old Trent James Morrow of Salem, who was later identified as the suspect. Police reported that a forensic medical team at Norton Children’s Hospital evaluated the child as part of the ongoing inquiry. Findings from the investigation were turned over to the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.
On August 7, a warrant was issued for Morrow on one count of domestic battery involving a victim under 14 years of age causing serious bodily injury, and one count of neglect of a dependent causing serious bodily injury. Both charges are classified as Level 3 felonies in Indiana.
Morrow was arrested Thursday evening by Officer Moore of the Salem Police Department with assistance from Detective Boley and Trooper Brett Walters. He was booked into the Washington County Jail.
Police emphasized that all subjects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
