MINNEAPOLIS — Residents across the Twin Cities should prepare for a breezy and cooling Friday, followed by a noticeable warm-up as the region heads into next week, according to the National Weather Service Twin Cities office.

Northwest winds will strengthen throughout the day Friday, with gusts reaching 25 to 35 mph, especially during the late morning and afternoon hours. These gusty conditions may create difficult travel for high-profile vehicles along major corridors including Interstate 94, I-35W, I-35E, and I-494. Loose outdoor objects should be secured, and drivers are advised to keep both hands on the wheel during peak wind periods.

Temperatures will fall steadily through the day, rather than warming, with afternoon highs limited to the mid-20s to near 30 degrees. As winds remain elevated, wind chills will make it feel significantly colder, particularly during the evening commute.

By tonight, skies clear and winds gradually ease, allowing temperatures to drop sharply. Overnight lows will fall to near zero or into the single digits, especially in outlying and low-lying areas. Residents should dress in layers and limit prolonged outdoor exposure.

Conditions improve over the weekend. Saturday will be quieter but still cool, with highs ranging from 20 to 35 degrees, warmest across southwest Minnesota. Sunday brings a more noticeable rebound, with highs climbing into the 30s and lower 40s, particularly west and south of the Twin Cities metro.

The warmest day arrives Monday, when temperatures are expected to reach the 40s, offering a brief break from winter’s chill. While no precipitation is expected during this period, the combination of melting snow during the day and refreezing at night could lead to slick spots on untreated roads.

Stay informed through local forecasts and be prepared for changing conditions as winter transitions into a brief taste of early spring.
