SAINT CHARLES, IL – Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday morning at River Glen of St. Charles Assisted Living Community.

St. Charles Police responded to reports of a man wielding a weapon at the facility around 8:46 a.m. Officers encountered the suspect upon arrival and assessed him as an immediate threat. An officer fired their weapon, striking the man. The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Illinois State Police (ISP), their Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 West is handling the use-of-force review. ISP will deliver findings to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office for independent evaluation.

Details regarding the suspect’s identity, the nature of the weapon, and the circumstances leading to the shooting have not been released. Authorities emphasized that no further information is available at this time as the investigation continues.
