Sacramento, CA – Strong north winds are stirring across Northern California today, pushing gusts up to 25 mph across parts of the Central Valley and coastal ranges. Residents in Sacramento and surrounding areas may notice blowing dust and increased fire danger through early evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, gusts between 15 and 25 mph are expected until 5 p.m. Sunday, especially along the I-5 corridor from Red Bluff to Stockton. Vallejo, Vacaville, and the Sacramento metro are seeing the strongest localized gusts near 25 mph. Areas near Fort Bragg and coastal mountains are also experiencing elevated winds.

Wind-prone zones like Red Bluff, Lakeport, and Chico should prepare for minor travel disruptions and potential power flickers. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use caution, especially on elevated roadways like Highway 20 and I-80. Warm temperatures are compounding the dry conditions, increasing wildfire concerns from Redding to Modesto.

While these gusts are not extreme, they are enough to warrant securing outdoor items and avoiding open flame use. A new weather system is expected to move into the region late tonight into early Monday, potentially shifting wind patterns and bringing additional changes.
