Sacramento, CA – Moderate to locally heavy rain is sweeping across Northern California this afternoon as a strong storm system continues to push inland. The latest radar update from the National Weather Service Sacramento office shows widespread precipitation extending from the Bay Area through Sacramento, Chico, Red Bluff, and into the northern Sierra.

Forecasters say wet and windy conditions are expected to persist through the afternoon and evening commute. Drivers should prepare for reduced visibility, ponding on roadways, and slick travel—especially during periods of heavier rainfall. Gusty winds may also make driving more difficult on exposed roads and bridges.

Cities including Sacramento, Vacaville, Marysville, Santa Rosa, Stockton, and surrounding communities are experiencing steady rain, with heavier pockets noted near Quincy, Blue Canyon, and the foothills. Mountain areas may see a rain–snow mix at higher elevations, though snow levels remain relatively high with this round of moisture.

The Weather Service advises motorists to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use headlights in areas of heavy rain. Additional showers are expected to continue into tonight as the storm gradually shifts eastward.
