Sacramento, Calif. – Northern California will trade summer heat for milder afternoons this week as a weather system ushers in a prolonged cooldown across the region. Highs will sit in the upper 70s to mid-80s through Saturday, a shift that could keep most cities below normal for early September.
According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, the trend begins Monday with cooler-than-average conditions expected to hold through the end of the week. The system will cap temperatures in Sacramento near 81 degrees most days, while Redding, Red Bluff, and Marysville are projected to remain in the low to mid-80s.
The change offers a break from typical late-summer heat, particularly for cities like Chico and Auburn, where highs may dip into the mid-70s by midweek. Stockton and Modesto will also hold steady around 80 to 83 degrees, easing strain on energy demand and reducing wildfire risk across the Central Valley and foothills.
Residents are encouraged to enjoy the more comfortable weather but remain alert for changing conditions as systems pass through. More updates will be issued if additional advisories are needed.
