Sacramento, California – Residents across interior northern California should prepare for heat-related stress on Wednesday as a Moderate HeatRisk blankets the region, from Redding to Modesto and eastward into the Sierra foothills.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, this level of heat can affect people without access to effective cooling or hydration—especially seniors, children, and those with underlying health issues. Areas of concern include Sacramento, Chico, Yuba City, and Stockton, where inland valleys are expected to see prolonged afternoon highs and limited overnight relief.

The Moderate HeatRisk designation means shaded rest, hydration, and access to air conditioning are essential. Those working or exercising outdoors are advised to limit strenuous activity to early morning or late evening. Vulnerable groups should stay indoors, check in on neighbors, and avoid leaving pets or people in parked vehicles.

While this is not an extreme heat event, officials emphasize the cumulative impact of persistent warm days. The NWS says conditions could worsen later this week if high pressure builds further.

Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday evening. Stay tuned for updated advisories.
