SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento residents will feel near-triple-digit heat today, with highs expected to reach 97°F before the region briefly cools later this week. The National Weather Service warns the hot, dry conditions could strain local power grids and increase wildfire risk across Northern California.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will bring a shift as highs fall back to the upper 80s. Clouds will build into the evening, with a 30 percent chance of showers developing after 11 p.m. into Friday morning. While rain amounts are expected to stay light, the showers could dampen commutes on Interstate 5 and Highway 50 during the Friday morning rush.

Communities across the Central Valley, including Elk Grove, Roseville and Davis, will see temperatures cool into the low 80s on Friday. Winds from the southwest at 5 to 7 mph may help improve air quality after several days of stagnant heat.

Residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Outdoor workers and commuters should prepare for slick roads if showers develop late Thursday into Friday.

Sunny skies return Saturday with highs near 89°F, warming back into the low 90s Sunday and Monday. More showers could arrive by Tuesday, keeping conditions unsettled into early next week.
