Sacramento, Calif. – Near-90°F heat and strengthening winds will combine to elevate fire concerns and outdoor impacts across the Sacramento Valley by Thursday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, temperatures will remain well above normal through the weekend, with highs reaching 88°F in Sacramento, 89°F in Modesto, and upper 80s across Stockton and Marysville. Northern areas including Redding and Red Bluff will also see highs in the low to mid-80s.

Winds will become a bigger factor Thursday, especially across the northern Sacramento Valley and nearby foothills. Gusts are expected to reach 30 to 36 mph in areas like Chico, Red Bluff, and Redding, with breezy conditions extending south toward Sacramento and Stockton. These winds, combined with dry conditions, could increase the risk of fast-moving grass fires.

Major routes including Interstate 5 and Highway 99 may see crosswinds, especially in open areas north of Sacramento. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use caution.

Residents should avoid outdoor burning, secure loose objects, and stay hydrated during the afternoon heat. Conditions begin to ease early next week as temperatures fall back into the 60s and low 70s, but elevated fire concerns may linger through the weekend.
