Sacramento, CA – A sharp cooldown is on the way for Northern California as a Pacific weather system moves inland this week, bringing breezy onshore winds and cooler air to the Sacramento Valley and surrounding areas.
According to the US National Weather Service Sacramento, high temperatures that reached the upper 80s Tuesday will steadily fall through the weekend. By Friday, many valley cities—including Sacramento, Chico, and Modesto—are forecast to top out in the upper 60s to low 70s, with similar conditions expected into early next week.
The agency’s seven-day outlook, issued Tuesday morning, shows temperatures in Sacramento dropping from 88°F on Tuesday to 71°F by Monday, October 13. Redding, Red Bluff, and Chico will follow a similar trend, with afternoon highs expected to cool by nearly 15–20 degrees compared to earlier this week.
Forecasters say the change is being driven by an approaching weather system and increased onshore flow, which will usher in cooler marine air across interior Northern California. The National Weather Service notes that while temperatures are still above normal Tuesday, the region will see minor heat risk taper off by midweek.
