California – Headlights glow like halos in thick fog across the Central Valley this morning, with visibility shrinking fast along major corridors. Damp, cold air hugs the ground, turning familiar routes into slow-moving stretches of uncertainty.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through midday. Visibility may drop to one-quarter mile or less across the Sacramento Valley and northern San Joaquin Valley. The advisory covers Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto, and surrounding communities, where fog settles deepest near rivers, fields, and open lowlands.

Travel impacts are most pronounced during the morning commute. Drivers on Interstate 5, Highway 99, and connecting surface roads should expect sudden whiteout conditions. Slower speeds, increased following distance, and constant use of headlights are strongly advised. Minor delays are likely, especially near interchanges and rural stretches. For now, conditions gradually improve late this morning as sunshine mixes down.

Temperatures start in the low 40s, limiting any ice risk, but damp pavement remains slick. By afternoon, fog lifts and skies turn mostly sunny, pushing highs into the mid-60s. That warming trend continues into midweek, offering a welcome break from winter gloom.

Tuesday brings another round of morning fog, though coverage may be less widespread. Sunshine returns by midday with highs near the mid-60s. Wednesday and Thursday stay mostly sunny and mild, with afternoon temperatures holding steady in the low to mid-60s.

Looking toward the Feb 6–8 weekend, clouds increase again with a chance of light rain by Sunday. While snow is not expected locally, cooler mornings and lingering moisture could still affect early travel.

Nationally, winter remains locked across the Midwest and East, where snow and bitter cold persist. California’s challenge is visibility, not snow totals.
