California’s capital is starting crisp and quiet, with clear skies and temperatures in the upper 40s just after sunrise. The chill in the air fades quickly as bright March sun takes over. Expect a high near 66 to 68 degrees this afternoon under steady sunshine.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, calm winds this morning will turn northwest around 6 mph later today. Tuesday stays mostly sunny with a high near 68 and light winds. Skies remain clear at night, allowing lows to dip into the mid-40s.

This stretch signals a steady warming trend across the Valley. By Wednesday, highs reach the mid-60s again under mostly sunny skies. Thursday holds near 66, and Friday climbs to 71 degrees. Inland spots could push the mid-70s by Saturday.

Cool early mornings still matter. With lows in the 40s, damp patches from irrigation or light dew can briefly slick up rural roads before sunrise. Use caution along Highway 50 and Interstate 5 during the earliest commute hours.

Daylight is increasing rapidly through March. We gain more than an hour of sunlight this month, and clocks spring ahead at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8. The added evening light will make the warming trend feel even stronger.

Long-range guidance into the 6–10 day window favors above-normal temperatures across Northern California. Spring warmth is building into early next week.
