California – A wall of fog grips the Sacramento Valley this morning, swallowing headlights and slowing early traffic along I-5, Highway 99, and Route 50. As millions of Californians prepare to hit the road for Thanksgiving, the dense mist is already complicating morning commutes across the capital region. Tail lights glow faintly through the haze, and drivers are urged to use low beams and extra caution on slick pavement.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. PST. Visibility has dropped below a quarter mile in spots stretching from Elk Grove north toward Yuba City. The calm, cool air has trapped low-level moisture, producing “classic tule fog” conditions — thick, patchy, and slow to lift.

Once the fog clears, however, Northern California will enjoy a calm and mild stretch heading into Thanksgiving week. Highs climb near 61°F today, reaching the upper 50s to low 60s through midweek. By Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day, skies turn mostly sunny with light winds — ideal for safe travel, outdoor gatherings, or even early holiday decorating.

To be fair, morning fog could return briefly in low-lying areas through Wednesday, but widespread impacts appear unlikely after today. Travelers should check conditions before sunrise and allow extra time for morning drives.
