Sacramento, CA – The National Weather Service in Sacramento is warning drivers of potential patchy fog early Thursday morning across the Sacramento and northern San Joaquin valleys, where visibility could briefly drop below a quarter mile in spots.

According to the latest forecast, the highest fog probabilities are centered near Galt, Stockton, and Madera, where visibility reductions could be significant between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. Thursday. Sacramento itself has about a 50% chance of dense fog, while southern valley areas could see localized pockets of thicker fog near Merced and Modesto.

The weather service urges drivers to use low-beam headlights, slow down, and allow extra travel time for the morning commute. Conditions are expected to improve by mid- to late morning as fog lifts with increasing sunlight.

Residents are reminded to use caution near rivers, canals, and rural highways where fog tends to form most readily.
