California – Rain is coming down in steady waves across Sacramento this afternoon, turning I-5 and Highway 50 slick and slowing traffic with standing water in spots. Windshields blur under heavier bursts, and brief thunder could rattle through by late day. Plan extra time and avoid sudden lane changes.

According to the National Weather Service, rain chances remain as high as 90% through the day, with thunderstorms possible after mid-afternoon. Rainfall totals could reach a quarter to half inch, with south winds between 10 and 14 mph and gusts up to 24 mph.

Across Sacramento and nearby communities like Elk Grove and Arden-Arcade, showers continue through the afternoon before gradually easing later tonight. Roads will stay wet into the next commute window, especially in low-lying areas prone to pooling. Keep headlights on and watch for sudden slowdowns.

By Monday, the pattern flips quickly. Clouds break for mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid-60s, offering a clear rebound from today’s stormy setup. Winds ease, and roads begin to dry out.

Tuesday brings even better conditions, with sunshine pushing highs near the upper 60s. By Wednesday, temperatures approach 70 degrees with mostly sunny skies, signaling a strong spring warmup across Northern California.

Looking ahead, dry and warmer weather holds through midweek, with no major storm systems expected. Today’s rain fades, but conditions can still change quickly in isolated storms.
