Sacramento, California – Flooding concerns continue across parts of Northern California as moderate to heavy rainfall persists into the morning hours, prompting ongoing flood warnings and advisories.
According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, flood warnings and flood advisories remain in effect until noon Monday, while an areal flood watch continues through Friday afternoon. The heaviest rainfall is focused over Shasta County, the surrounding mountains, and adjacent foothill communities.
Forecasters report major flooding of urban areas, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations in Shasta County, with lingering impacts expected during the morning commute. Elsewhere across the region, continued rainfall is causing urban and small stream flooding, along with mud and rock slides, water over roadways, and poor drainage flooding.
The NWS warns that flooding impacts may continue even after rainfall intensity decreases, as runoff remains high and waterways stay elevated. Roads in low-lying and foothill areas may become impassable with little warning.
Residents are urged to follow flood safety guidance, including avoiding flooded roads and remembering the message, “Turn around, don’t drown.” Drivers should never attempt to cross water-covered roadways.
The ongoing conditions may affect commuters, early-morning workers, and freight traffic, particularly along rural highways and foothill routes.
Officials recommend checking quickmap.dot.ca.gov for the latest road closures and travel conditions as flooding impacts continue.
