Sacramento, CA – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall and dangerous winds to Northern California through Friday evening, prompting a series of Winter Storm Warnings and Watches across the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 p.m. Thursday for elevations above 3,000 feet in Shasta, Plumas, Lassen, and the Sierra Nevada regions. Snow accumulations could reach between 1 to 3 feet, with higher peaks expecting up to 4 feet. Winds may gust as high as 70 mph, further reducing visibility and making travel treacherous.

A Winter Storm Watch follows from Thursday night through Friday evening for elevations above 2,000 feet, including the Northeast Foothills and parts of the Sacramento Valley. Forecasters warn of additional snowfall between 6 and 20 inches, with gusty winds up to 55 mph.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected, with potential road closures and chain controls in effect. Officials urge residents to check Caltrans’ QuickMap for real-time road conditions and to avoid unnecessary travel.
