Rutland, VT – A 33-year-old Clarendon man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he led police on a high-speed pursuit through Rutland Monday night before being taken into custody several hours later.
According to the Rutland County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred Monday night when Rutland City Police issued a “be on the lookout” alert for a vehicle leaving Rutland Regional Medical Center that was allegedly being operated by an impaired driver. Deputy Alan Frasier, who was on patrol for the State Office of Highway Safety, later located the vehicle leaving Applebee’s on Woodstock Avenue.
Deputies say the vehicle was clocked traveling 63 mph in a posted 35 mph zone as it turned onto Stratton Road. When deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver allegedly fled, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph. The pursuit was later terminated for safety reasons.
Authorities say the vehicle was later located parked at a business on Route 7 in the Town of Wallingford. Deputies ordered the driver to exit the vehicle, but report the individual did not comply. The suspect, identified as Kyle Bruno, was later taken into custody and transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for DUI processing.
Bruno is charged with eluding a police officer, DUI, grossly negligent operation, excessive speed, and impeding a police officer. No injuries were reported during the incident.
He was released on a citation and is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court – Rutland Criminal Division on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. to answer to the charges.
Anyone who witnessed the pursuit or has additional information is encouraged to contact local authorities.
