Rutland County, VT – A late-night traffic stop in West Rutland on Friday resulted in a DUI arrest after deputies observed what they described as dangerous driving behavior along a busy roadway.
According to the Rutland County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred Friday, December 13, at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Route 4 West near mile marker 14 in the Town of West Rutland. Deputies reported observing a vehicle committing multiple traffic violations, including illegal use of a horn, spinning tires at an intersection, and failing to maintain its lane.
The operator was identified as Chandler E. Sharrow, 37, of Shrewsbury, Vermont. Authorities say Corporal Gregory Ricketts made contact with Sharrow and observed several signs of impairment during the stop. Police report that Sharrow allegedly refused to perform standardized field sobriety tests when requested.
As a result, Sharrow was taken into custody and transported to the Rutland Police Department for processing. According to the sheriff’s office, an evidentiary breath sample later showed a blood alcohol concentration above 0.16, which carries an enhanced penalty under Vermont law.
Sharrow was later released to a sober adult and issued a criminal citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court – Criminal Division at a later date to answer to the DUI charge. In addition, deputies issued multiple civil violations, including roadways laned for travel, illegal use of a horn, starting a stopped vehicle, operating without a license, and operating an unregistered vehicle.
Police say the vehicle was towed from the scene following the arrest. No injuries were reported.
