Murfreesboro, TN – Drivers on I-24 East in Rutherford County experienced a dangerous commute Wednesday evening after a reported road rage shooting between Exits 76 and 78, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

According to investigators, the incident occurred around 5:05 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, as traffic moved through the Medical Center Parkway and Old Fort Parkway corridor — one of the busiest stretches of I-24 in Middle Tennessee. Detectives said a gray Nissan Titan was traveling eastbound when its driver was allegedly cut off by a dark sedan. That sedan reportedly began driving erratically before someone inside allegedly fired multiple shots at the truck.

Deputies did not report any injuries, but the gunfire left commuters shaken and caused delays as investigators canvassed the area. The highway was not closed, but traffic slowed for a period as deputies gathered shell casings and reviewed nearby business and traffic cameras for possible leads.

Sheriff’s Office officials said they are actively working to identify the suspect vehicle and any individuals involved. Because the shooting occurred during peak rush hour, detectives believe several drivers may have witnessed the confrontation or captured it on dashcam video.

“Incidents like this put everyone on the interstate at risk,” investigators said in the announcement, urging the public to report anything they saw.
