Rutherford County, TN – Two suspects in a deadly Metro Nashville shooting have been arrested by Rutherford County deputies, authorities confirmed Wednesday. The case involves the October 18th fatal shooting of 17-year-old Ja’Quan Nolan outside the Forest Park Apartments in Bellevue.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, investigators say Nolan’s cousin was shot in the back of the head while allegedly trying to enter one of the apartments. An arrest warrant has since been issued charging Marquez Reed, 19, with criminal homicide, reckless endangerment, and gun-related felonies. Reed was taken into custody in Rutherford County on October 24th and is expected to be booked in Nashville soon.
Two others — Malichi Cummins, 21, and a 16-year-old male — are also facing attempted murder and felony reckless endangerment charges. Police say the suspects were involved in an argument with a male apartment resident when gunfire erupted, hitting Nolan multiple times. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Cummins removing a gun from Nolan before fleeing.
The adult male on the balcony who was grazed by a bullet was treated and released from a local hospital, police added.
Cummins was separately arrested in Rutherford County on theft charges the same day. The juvenile suspect was later arrested in Montgomery County and booked into juvenile detention.
Court records show Reed previously pleaded guilty to auto theft in May 2024 after facing multiple prior charges.
