MOMENCE, IL – A tornado wreaked havoc on Momence last night, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

According to reports Friday’s twister cut a path through the south side of town, moving eastward, causing significant damage to homes, apartments, and power infrastructure.

One resident shared their harrowing experience, expressing gratitude that their house narrowly escaped the tornado’s path by mere inches. However, fences and carports weren’t as fortunate, with many being torn apart or displaced.

Emergency services are actively responding to the situation, with reports of multiple trees and power lines down in the area. Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution and keep at least 35 feet away from any downed live wires to avoid the risk of electrocution.

Some residents began reporting power restored to the area as early as 9am.

The tornado’s impact extended along Oregon St near Baker & Taylor, raising concerns for former residents in that vicinity. Additionally, there are reports of damage along the route leading to 114, causing road closures and diversions.

As of 3:00 this morning, Saturday, Route 114 remains closed all the way to N 12000E Rd due to the extent of damage by Van Drunen, Momence Pallet, and Flanders. Authorities are working diligently to clear the roads and assess the full scope of the damage.

Local and state police are on-site, monitoring the situation closely to ensure public safety. Residents are advised to avoid the affected areas until further notice and seek alternative routes when traveling.
