Round Lake, IL – The Round Lake Police Department is reminding residents to remove or repair abandoned and inoperable vehicles as part of a new community maintenance push.

According to the department, vehicles that are not drivable or have not been moved for more than seven days may be classified as abandoned. Similarly, cars missing key parts such as engines or wheels are considered inoperable after the same period.

Police say the village may order the removal of any such vehicles found on public or private property if visible to the public, following a seven-day notice. Vehicles left on highways for more than 19 hours, or those creating a traffic hazard, can be removed immediately.

“Leaving an abandoned vehicle on public streets or property is prohibited,” the department emphasized in its reminder. Vehicle owners are responsible for all towing costs.

Residents can review the full ordinance under Village of Round Lake Code 19.24 – Abandoned Vehicles for further details. The department encouraged everyone to help “keep our community safe and looking its best” by ensuring their vehicles are operational and properly stored.
