LA CROSSE, WI – The National Weather Service in La Crosse has extended a Winter Weather Advisory through 6 a.m. Wednesday, as a second round of snow sweeps across portions of southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, and western and central Wisconsin.
Forecasters say a band of snow, preceded by patchy freezing drizzle, is producing slick conditions on untreated roads and walkways. Up to one inch of additional accumulation is expected before the system exits by early morning.
Winds are also increasing behind the snow band, with gusts reaching 35 to 50 mph, especially in open areas. These winds will contribute to reduced visibility and blowing snow, making travel hazardous.
Counties under the advisory include Mitchell, Winneshiek, Allamakee, Olmsted, Winona, Houston, La Crosse, Vernon, Crawford, Richland, Grant, and others across the tri-state region.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution, particularly on interstates and rural highways where patchy ice and drifting snow could cause sudden slick spots.
