Rome, NY – A domestic disturbance in the City of Rome led to an arrest, child welfare charges, and the seizure of multiple firearms.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, road patrol deputies responded Feb. 5 to a residence in the outer district of Rome for a report of a physical domestic incident in progress.

While deputies were on scene attempting to complete the investigation, the suspect allegedly made multiple threats of bodily harm toward family members and deputies, authorities said. Investigators also determined the suspect was in possession of a firearm while in the presence of a child and was not legally allowed to have the weapon.

After the investigation, William H. Conrod, 58, was arrested and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A misdemeanor, and Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a Class E felony, according to the sheriff’s office.

Following arrest processing at the law enforcement building, Conrod was held at the Oneida County Jail pending arraignment in CAP Court.

Due to the threats allegedly made during the incident, deputies filed for a Temporary Extreme Risk Protection Order. The order was granted by a Supreme Court justice, officials said. As a result of the ERPO, multiple firearms were located and seized.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Authorities did not release additional details about the child involved or the relationship between the parties.

Officials emphasized that domestic incidents involving firearms are treated as high-risk calls due to the potential danger to victims, children, and responding officers. The investigation remains ongoing.

This incident may be relevant to local families, tenants, and workers in the Rome area, particularly those concerned about domestic safety and firearm access.
