Wheaton, IL — Beginning in June, the Wheaton Police Department will bring back Neighborhood Roll Call outreach events. The events provide local residents with the opportunity to meet officers and learn about important safety protocols. In partnership with Community Unit School District 200 (CUSD200), this year’s outreach events are focused on how the department keeps schools and the community safe. Officers will be at local CUSD200 schools to meet community members, lead demonstrations and activities and answer questions.
Starting at 6:30 p.m., the officers will open the events with a presentation on neighborhood happenings and crime trends. After giving a demonstration, the attendees can ask the officers questions. Fun activities will also be offered for children.
The first Roll Call event will take place at Longfellow Elementary School on June 3. The department encouraged all community members to attend. A full schedule of events can be found online, and additional dates will be added throughout the summer.
“We look forward to bringing back this program and meeting with the community again this summer,” Sergeant Angela Smith said in the City of Wheaton press release. Smith leads this program in the Wheaton Police Department.
“It has proved to be a meaningful way for our officers to engage with residents and share relevant information about their neighborhood and their police department,” Smith said.
