Bottineau, ND – Snow-covered roads are already slowing travel across northern North Dakota, with visibility dropping and slick conditions developing before the midday commute wraps up Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Bismarck, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Renville, Bottineau, and Rolette counties until 1 p.m. CDT, with total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches. The advisory includes communities such as Bottineau, Rolla, Dunseith, and Mohall, where steady snowfall continues to coat roadways.

Highways and rural roads across the region, including stretches near the Turtle Mountains and routes connecting small communities, are seeing reduced traction. Untreated surfaces may become snow-packed, increasing stopping distances and raising the risk of minor crashes. Local officials urge drivers to slow down and allow extra travel time, especially on less-traveled county roads.

North Dakota 511 reports indicate variable conditions, with some roads partially covered and others fully snow-packed. School transportation and midday travel plans may face delays as snowfall persists through early afternoon.

Drivers should keep headlights on, maintain safe following distances, and check updated road conditions before heading out.

Snow is expected to taper off after 1 p.m., but lingering slick spots could persist into the evening. Additional advisories are possible if conditions redevelop.
