Denver, Colo. – Scattered thunderstorms will continue to flare across Colorado’s high country this weekend, raising travel risks for mountain communities while the Denver metro stays largely dry and warm.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, storms will be most active across higher terrain south of Interstate 70, with activity expected through the weekend and persisting into Thursday. Lightning, gusty winds, and brief downpours could disrupt travel over passes such as Berthoud, Loveland, and Rabbit Ears.

Denver will see a quieter stretch with highs in the mid-80s Saturday and Sunday, though smoke and haze may linger at times. A slight chance of showers develops Sunday afternoon, but storms will be isolated. Calm winds and mostly sunny skies dominate the early week forecast, with temperatures climbing near 88 degrees Monday and Tuesday.

Mountain towns including Summit County, Estes Park, and areas near Rocky Mountain National Park should prepare for fast-changing conditions each afternoon, as isolated storms can build quickly at higher elevations. Drivers are advised to check road conditions before heading into the mountains and to be alert for reduced visibility from smoke or sudden rain showers.

Storm chances remain in place for higher elevations through Thursday, while Denver and the plains trend mostly dry.
