Portsmouth, NH – A late-night pursuit on Interstate 95 ended in Portsmouth on Thursday after state troopers arrested a Massachusetts man who allegedly fled at speeds topping 120 mph with his headlights turned off.
According to New Hampshire State Police, the incident began around 10:21 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, 2025, when a trooper observed a 2016 BMW X3 speeding northbound on I-95 in Hampton. When the driver allegedly failed to stop for a traffic stop, a pursuit began.
Troopers said the vehicle continued north at high speeds, driving erratically and without exterior lighting before exiting the interstate at Exit 5 toward the Portsmouth Traffic Circle. The driver then allegedly traveled south on Route 1. Due to safety concerns, troopers terminated the pursuit and began canvassing the area.
According to police, the BMW was later located behind a business on Lafayette Road. The driver and only occupant, identified as Mason Hebert, 22, of Boxford, Massachusetts, was arrested. Troopers reported that Hebert allegedly showed signs of impairment.
Hebert was charged with a felony count of reckless conduct and misdemeanor counts of aggravated driving under the influence of liquor and disobeying an officer. Police said he was held in preventive detention and transported to Rockingham County Jail, where he remains pending an appearance scheduled in Portsmouth District Court on Friday, November 28, 2025.
All aspects of the case remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Cameron Vetter at Cameron.S.Vetter@dos.nh.gov.
