Rockingham County, North Carolina – A man who arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound has died, prompting a murder charge as investigators worked to determine where the shooting occurred.
According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and investigators met with Eden Police on Tuesday after the victim was dropped off at UNC Rockingham Hospital suffering from a gunshot injury. Detectives initially launched the investigation in Eden before determining the shooting took place within Rockingham County jurisdiction.
Authorities said the victim later died from his injuries, shifting the case into a homicide investigation. With assistance from multiple agencies, including Eden Police and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, detectives identified and charged Daniel Ian Woods with second-degree murder in connection to the death of Anterrion Spencer.
Investigators coordinated with Rockingham County 911 Communications, Emergency Management Services, and the District Attorney’s Office as the case developed. Officials have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The investigation remains active, and authorities say more information could be released as the case progresses.
