Rockingham County, NC – A domestic violence warrant service turned deadly Monday morning when Rockingham County deputies were met with gunfire from a male suspect, officials confirmed. The incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. on October 7, 2025, after deputies arrived at a residence to serve an arrest warrant related to a domestic dispute earlier that day.

According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect—a 31-year-old man—was wanted for Misdemeanor Domestic Violence, Misdemeanor Assault by Pointing a Gun, and Misdemeanor Communicating Threats. As deputies approached the home, the suspect allegedly opened fire from a window. Deputies returned fire, striking the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

No deputies were injured, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has launched an independent review, as is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending family notification.

Sheriff Sam Page praised deputies for their restraint and professionalism, noting the high-risk nature of domestic violence calls. “Today, deputies encountered a suspect with the intent to harm not only the victim but law enforcement officers,” Page said. “I’m thankful our deputies were not harmed during this tragic incident.”

The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to EMS crews, local and state law enforcement agencies, and hospital staff for their assistance.
