Denver, Colo. – A sharp chill is moving into the Rockies, with temperatures dropping 10 to 15 degrees below average by Tuesday as a broad disturbance aloft drives cooler air into Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana.
According to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, highs along the Front Range will fall into the upper 60s to low 70s Tuesday, a significant drop from the 80s that dominated last week. Cheyenne, Wyo., may only reach the mid-60s, while Billings, Mont., is forecast to top out near 70.
The cooler surge will be most noticeable at higher elevations, where mountain towns could see daytime temperatures in the 50s and brisk overnight lows in the 30s. Travelers on I-25 and I-70 should prepare for jacket weather and cooler conditions during early-morning commutes.
Officials encourage residents to limit outdoor exposure in the early mornings and evenings, when temperatures dip sharply, and to prepare for cooler nights by ensuring furnaces and space heaters are in working order.
The Rockies are expected to remain below normal through midweek before gradual warming returns late in the week.
