Rockford, IL – A 15-year-old boy from Rockford was taken into juvenile detention after allegedly crashing a stolen vehicle into an unoccupied home during a police pursuit.
According to the Rockford Police Department, officers with the SCOPE unit attempted a traffic stop around 6:40 p.m. Sunday near Ridge and Jonathan streets after spotting a reportedly stolen car. The vehicle fled the scene and ultimately lost control, striking a home in the 1800 block of Glenwood Avenue. No injuries were reported.
Police said the vehicle was occupied by three 15-year-old males. One juvenile was lodged in juvenile detention while the other two were released to their guardians. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and authorized charges against one of the juveniles.
The 15-year-old male now faces multiple charges including alleged possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing to elude, driving without a valid license, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Additional charges may still be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
