Rockford, Illinois – The City of Rockford has declared a Snow Emergency effective 8 p.m. Tuesday, requiring immediate changes to overnight street parking.

According to the Rockford Police Department and the City of Rockford Government, the emergency declaration is intended to allow snowplows to safely and efficiently clear roadways as winter weather moves into the area.

Under the snow emergency rules, vehicles must be parked on the even-numbered side of the street by 8 p.m. Tuesday. By 8 a.m. Wednesday, vehicles must be moved to the odd-numbered side. All vehicles on a given street must be parked on the same side to avoid interference with snow removal operations.

City officials warn that vehicles parked in violation of snow emergency regulations may be ticketed or towed to ensure plows have sufficient access to city streets.

Residents are encouraged to move vehicles as soon as possible and to remain alert for additional updates if the snow emergency is extended. Parking restrictions apply citywide unless otherwise noted.

The city thanked residents for their cooperation and urged drivers to use caution during winter conditions, especially during overnight and early morning travel.

Students, commuters, and early-morning workers should plan extra time Wednesday in case snow removal operations slow travel.
