Rockford, IL: Man Charged in Hard Rock Casino Bomb Threat

Rockford, Illinois – A bomb threat at Hard Rock Casino prompted an arrest and terrorism charge Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Rockford Police Department, officers responded around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday to the Hard Rock Casino at 7801 E. State St. after receiving a report of a bomb threat made by phone.

Police said a man later identified as Joshua Ellsworth, 32, of Rockford, allegedly called in the threat. Officers located Ellsworth at his residence a short time later and took him into custody without incident.

Following a review of the case, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges of disorderly conduct (false bomb threat) and terrorism. Ellsworth was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.

Authorities emphasized that the charges are accusations, and Ellsworth is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Police have not released information about disruptions or evacuations at the casino. The investigation remains ongoing.
