ockford, IL – A residential fire in the 1700 block of S. 4th St. late Sunday night forced multiple occupants to escape by jumping from a second-floor window, according to the Rockford Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire coming from the rear first-floor porch, blocking the only exit for residents on the second floor. Crews quickly began fire suppression and search operations, ensuring all 10 occupants of the two-unit building were accounted for. Seven of those residents had to jump from a window to escape, and one dog was rescued from the second floor.
One civilian sustained injuries but was treated on the scene and released. The fire displaced all 10 residents, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
