Rochester, NY – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Friday morning for parts of Western New York, as lake effect snow continues to develop off Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, creating slick roads and poor visibility across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the advisory covers Monroe, Wyoming, and Allegany Counties, including Rochester, Warsaw, and Wellsville, where additional snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches are expected in the most persistent bands.

Wind gusts up to 35 mph will contribute to blowing and drifting snow, particularly in open and rural areas. Forecasters warn that the Thursday morning and evening commutes could be hazardous, with rapidly changing road conditions and bursts of heavy snow reducing visibility to near zero at times.

Drivers are urged to slow down, maintain extra following distance, and use caution on untreated or secondary roads. Snow showers will gradually taper late Thursday night but could persist in localized bands into early Friday.

Residents are encouraged to share snowfall reports and conditions with the National Weather Service through social media or the official NWS Buffalo website.
