Roanoke, VA – Virginia will experience unusually warm conditions today as a warm front lifts through the region, bringing temperatures well above what is typical for mid-November. Afternoon highs will run 8 to 12 degrees above normal, with many locations climbing into the upper 60s and lower 70s.
According to the US National Weather Service Blacksburg, the warm spell continues into early Sunday before a cold front moves across the region during the afternoon. Today’s warmth spans most of the lower Mid-Atlantic, including the New River Valley, Southside, the Roanoke Valley, and the Blue Ridge foothills.
Forecast temperature charts from Blacksburg to South Boston show widespread 70s early this afternoon, with nighttime lows remaining mild in the 50s. Clouds will gradually thicken late tonight as the cold front approaches from the west.
On Sunday, temperatures will start the day mild but fall steadily behind the front. Highs will only reach the upper 40s to mid-50s by late afternoon, returning the region to more seasonable conditions for mid-November. Cooler, drier air will settle in Sunday night, with lows dropping into the 30s across many areas.
The cooler pattern will continue into the start of the new workweek, bringing typical late-fall air back to the region after this brief warm stretch. No significant rain or storm hazards are currently expected with Sunday’s front, though breezy conditions may accompany the temperature drop.
Communities across southwest and central Virginia—including Blacksburg, Roanoke, Lynchburg, Danville, and Lexington—should enjoy today’s warmth but prepare for a noticeable cooldown by Sunday afternoon.
More forecast updates will be issued as the colder air moves through.
