Blacksburg, Virginia – Wednesday will bring the coolest weather Southwest Virginia has seen in over a week, but a stretch of rising temperatures and increased rain chances is on the horizon. According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, afternoon highs will gradually climb, peaking in the upper 80s and low 90s across the region by the middle of next week—just a few degrees above August norms.

For cities like Roanoke, Danville, and Lynchburg, expect today’s refreshing relief to give way to summer’s return. Roanoke should see highs rising from 75°F Wednesday to near 92°F by next Wednesday, while Danville and South Boston will push into the lower 90s. Rain looks sparse until Sunday, but humidity and isolated showers will return to places like Bluefield and Mount Airy as early as the weekend, with precipitation chances climbing steadily into midweek.

Travelers should watch for pop-up showers, especially from Sunday through Wednesday, and consider shifting outdoor plans to late week when conditions will be drier. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and limit strenuous activities during peak afternoon hours as heat builds.

The warm, unsettled weather pattern is expected to linger, with more updates possible if storm chances increase. Stay alert for new advisories as conditions evolve through next week.
