Wakefield, Virginia – Snow will spread into central Virginia by 1 p.m. Sunday, creating slick bridges and overpasses before the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday until 7 p.m. Monday for Goochland, Powhatan, Amelia, Nottoway, Dinwiddie, Prince George and Charles City counties, along with western and eastern Henrico, Chesterfield and Louisa counties, including the city of Richmond. Total snow accumulations up to 2 inches are expected.

Light snow developing Sunday afternoon and continuing at times into Monday may coat untreated roads as temperatures hover near freezing. Interstates 95 and 64, Route 288 and the I-295 corridor could see slick stretches overnight. Elevated roadways and ramps are most likely to freeze first, especially after sunset.

Both the Monday morning and evening commutes could be affected as light snow lingers and pavement remains cold. Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check Virginia 511 for updated road conditions before traveling.

Snow tapers toward Monday evening, but patchy slick spots may persist beyond 7 p.m. as colder air settles in. Additional updates are possible if snowfall totals increase.
