RICHMOND, Va. – Residents across Virginia will sweat through another summerlike stretch Friday as highs climb into the upper 80s and low 90s, before showers and thunderstorms return Saturday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, increasing clouds will build late Saturday with a chance for storms, some capable of bringing heavy downpours. The storm risk is expected to continue into early Sunday, especially in central and eastern Virginia.
Richmond, Norfolk, and Fredericksburg will see the most notable transition, shifting from near 92 degrees on Saturday to highs only in the upper 70s by Sunday. Coastal areas should also be mindful of a moderate rip current risk along the northern beaches, making swimming hazardous.
Drivers on Interstates 64 and 95 may encounter slick conditions late Saturday and Sunday as showers linger. Outdoor plans, including late-summer festivals and sporting events, could be impacted by scattered rain and cooler air settling in.
By Monday, drier air returns with sunshine and highs near 79, making for a more comfortable Labor Day week ahead. Additional updates are expected if storm threats intensify.
