Richmond, VA – Virginia will experience a roller-coaster stretch of weather through Monday, starting with unseasonably warm temperatures today and ending with much cooler conditions to start the workweek. Highs today will climb into the lower to mid-70s across much of the state before a shift toward windier and colder weather arrives Sunday.
According to the US National Weather Service Wakefield, a few showers may brush northern Virginia tonight into early Sunday, but most areas will stay dry. Winds will strengthen overnight as a front passes, setting up a very windy Sunday with gusts between 30 and 35 mph. The combination of low humidity and strong winds could create an elevated fire risk, especially in inland areas.
Marine hazards will also increase. A Small Craft Advisory has been issued for all coastal waters, and a Gale Watch is in effect for northern coastal waters Sunday afternoon into Monday. Forecasters warn that winds may become hazardous for small vessels, particularly near the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and coastal inlets.
Temperatures fall sharply on Monday, with highs only in the low to mid-50s and lows dipping into the 30s by Monday night. Skies will remain partly cloudy, but conditions are expected to stay dry as cooler air settles in across the state.
Residents across eastern, central, and coastal Virginia—including Norfolk, Richmond, Williamsburg, Newport News, and the Northern Neck—should prepare for a dramatic change in temperatures and strong winds through Sunday.
