Richmond, VA – Virginia residents are waking up to slick and snow-covered roads this morning after a band of heavy overnight snow swept across much of the region. The National Weather Service in Wakefield reports snowfall totals ranging from 3 to 6 inches, with some areas seeing even higher amounts.

According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snow fell along and south of U.S. Route 460, where locations near Farmville and Amelia County recorded 6 to 7 inches. Accumulations tapered to the north, with Richmond reporting around 4 inches and Norfolk seeing up to 1.5 inches.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for central and southeastern Virginia through 9 AM Tuesday, as subfreezing temperatures could cause refreezing of snowmelt and lingering moisture on roadways. Officials warn of black ice and slippery conditions during the morning commute.

Motorists are urged to use caution, allow extra travel time, and avoid sudden stops or sharp turns on untreated roads. Conditions should improve later today as temperatures rise and crews continue clearing primary routes.
