Richmond, VA – The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Frost Advisory for central, south-central, and southeast Virginia, as well as parts of northeast North Carolina, with temperatures expected to dip near 34 degrees early Sunday morning.
The advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. EST Sunday, Nov. 2, and includes a wide area stretching from Richmond and Petersburg to Suffolk, Emporia, and the North Carolina border counties of Hertford and Gates.
According to forecasters, frost formation could harm or kill sensitive outdoor plants if left uncovered. Residents are urged to bring plants indoors, cover gardens, and protect outdoor vegetation before the overnight chill settles in.
Light winds and clear skies will create ideal conditions for frost, especially in rural and low-lying areas. Urban centers like Richmond and Hopewell may stay slightly warmer, but the surrounding suburbs and farmlands are likely to see patchy to widespread frost by dawn.
Sunday will bring sunshine and highs in the upper 50s to low 60s, offering a mild rebound after the cold start.
