Richmond, VA – The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued Winter Storm Warnings for much of central and eastern Virginia, with 3 to 6 inches of snow expected from Monday morning through Monday evening.

The warning includes Richmond, Petersburg, Farmville, Emporia, and South Hill, where the heaviest snow is projected to fall. Surrounding areas, including Williamsburg, Franklin, Norfolk, and Tappahannock, remain under a Winter Weather Advisory with expected totals of 1 to 3 inches.

According to the NWS, snow will begin early Monday morning and continue throughout the day, likely impacting both morning and evening commutes. Roads are expected to become snow-covered and slick, with visibility reduced during heavier snow bands.

Forecasters note an upward trend in snow totals, with portions of central Virginia potentially seeing over 4 inches, especially around Farmville and the I-64 corridor.

Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, slow down, and check 511Virginia.org for real-time road updates. Cold air will linger Monday night, allowing snow and slush to refreeze, worsening travel conditions into Tuesday morning.
