Following the shooting, McCants reportedly left Richland County. Law enforcement later located him in Hartsville, South Carolina, where he was detained by Hartsville Police Department officers. He was subsequently transferred back to the custody of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
McCants has been formally charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the sheriff’s department. He is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
